Our History

Established in 1855, Epsom College in the United Kingdom received royal patronage from Her Majesty Queen Victoria in its inaugural year, a tradition upheld by every reigning monarch since its founding.

The origins of Epsom can be traced back to the unwavering dedication of Dr John Propert, who sought to enhance the lives of those facing adversity. Driven by his tireless efforts, he extended free housing, clothing, and education to the orphans of medical families, laying the foundation for the noble legacy of the College.

Through the visionary efforts of Dr Propert, crucial funds were mobilized, marking the inception of The Royal Medical Benevolent College. The enduring principles of benevolence and excellence, rooted in the Victorian era and upon which Epsom was established, continue to illuminate the path of the College to this present day.

The Royal Medical Foundation

The Royal Medical Foundation, situated at the heart of the College, maintains a vital role in school life. Rooted in generosity and a commitment to enhancing both individual lives and society, this charitable foundation upholds values that are central to the College even today.

Within the College Archives lies an extensive collection of photographs, artefacts, and ephemera from Epsom’s rich past. This continually growing gallery provides a unique opportunity to journey back through our storied history.
